Wyoming Veterans Property Tax Exemption (Veterans Property Tax Exemption)

Cuts $6,000 off the assessed value of your home or a vehicle registration, lowering your property tax or vehicle fee bill each year.

Who it is for

Wyoming resident veterans who served in WWI, WWII, Korea, or Vietnam, or who were honorably discharged and earned an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal or similar medal for service in a foreign conflict. Certain disabled veterans also qualify (contact the county assessor or the Wyoming Veterans Commission for details). Surviving spouses of qualifying veterans can keep receiving it until they remarry. You must have lived in Wyoming for at least three years.

How you apply: Apply through a partner organization.

Apply through your county assessor's office, not the state directly. A Veteran Service Officer can help you gather the paperwork.

How to apply

  1. Get the application form from your county assessor's or county treasurer's office, or from the Department of Revenue's tax relief page.
  2. Bring a copy of your DD214 or other discharge paperwork showing your qualifying service or medal.
  3. Turn in the form to your county assessor by the deadline. You must contact the assessor again each year to keep the exemption.

Deadline: Applications are due the fourth Monday in May each year, and you must reapply annually to keep the exemption. (Annual cycle)
