The benefit includes the grave plot, opening and closing of the grave, a concrete grave liner for casketed burials, a headstone or marker, military honors, a burial flag, and perpetual care. It does not cover funeral home costs like a casket or cremation.

Veterans whose discharge is honorable, under honorable conditions, or general, along with their spouses and eligible dependents. Service length requirements vary by enlistment date; those who enlisted before September 7, 1980 need one or more days of active duty, while those who enlisted after that date generally need at least 24 consecutive months.
