South Dakota Veteran Free Tuition Program (Veteran Free Tuition)
Eligible South Dakota veterans get one month of free tuition at state universities or technical colleges for every month of qualifying wartime active duty service, up to four academic years, but only if they do not qualify for federal GI Bill or other federal education benefits.

Veterans discharged under honorable conditions who are South Dakota residents and served on active duty during a period of conflict or hostilities, and who do not qualify for federal education benefits (such as the GI Bill).

- Get the application form from your school's financial aid office, veterans representative, or registrar, or from the SD Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Attach a copy of your DD-214 showing honorable discharge and dates of service.
- Submit the completed application to your school or to Shane Olivier at the SD Department of Veterans Affairs, 425 E. Capitol Avenue, Pierre, SD 57501.
