This program exempts $200,000 of a home's value from property tax for veterans rated permanently and totally disabled from a service-connected condition, and exempts $150,000 for the surviving spouse of such a veteran (or a spouse receiving Dependency and Indemnity Compensation).

How to apply
- Get the Property Tax Exemption for Disabled Veterans application from your county assessor's office or online through the SD Department of Revenue.
- Complete the form with proof of the veteran's disability rating (or DIC award for surviving spouses) and proof of home ownership and occupancy.
- Submit the completed application to your local county assessor's office.
Deadline: Applications are available starting in January each year and must be submitted to the county assessor's office on or before November 1. (Annual cycle)
