Tuition Assistance for Children of War Veterans (SC Free Tuition for Veterans' Children)

Waives tuition at any South Carolina state-supported college, university, or technical school for eligible children of wartime veterans.

Who it is for

Children age 26 or younger of a veteran who served honorably during a recognized wartime period (WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, or the Gulf War) and who was killed in action, died in service, was permanently and totally disabled, was a POW, received the Medal of Honor or Purple Heart, or is missing in action. Both the veteran and child generally must have South Carolina residency of at least 12 months, though lifetime South Carolina residents may qualify even if the veteran does not currently live in the state.

How to apply

  1. Fill out the online Free Tuition Application at sc.accessgov.com.
  2. You will get an automated confirmation but no status updates while it processes (2 to 6 weeks).
  3. Once approved, take your approval to the school's financial aid or veterans office when you enroll.

Deadline: No fixed deadline. The benefit takes effect on the date the application is received, so apply before the term you want covered. (Rolling, apply any time)
