Ohio War Orphan and Severely Disabled Veterans' Children Scholarship (War Orphans Scholarship (WOS))
Tuition help for children of Ohio veterans who died or became severely disabled from service during a period of declared war or conflict. For the 2025-2026 school year, the award covered 77 percent of tuition and general fees at Ohio public colleges and paid $6,330 for the year at eligible private colleges.
Who it is for
Ohio residents who are children of a deceased or severely disabled Ohio veteran, are enrolled full time in an associate or bachelor's degree program at an eligible Ohio college or university, and apply between the ages of 16 and 24. Severely disabled means the veteran's VA award letter shows an overall rating of 60 percent or more.

How to apply
- Apply online through the electronic application linked on the program page, or download and mail the paper application.
- Upload or attach the veteran's DD-214 and VA award letter, and complete the required student acknowledgement form.
- Submit by May 15 to be considered for the following school year. Award amounts are announced after the scholarship board meets in late July.
Deadline: Applications are due May 15 every year for the following academic year. The deadline for the 2027-2028 school year is May 15, 2027. (Annual cycle)
