Military Injury Relief Fund (MIRF)
A tax-exempt $500 grant for people injured in a combat action while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces after October 7, 2001, and for people diagnosed with post-traumatic stress related to a combat action while serving after that date. Eligible people can receive the grant up to three times, once per Ohio fiscal year.
Who it is for
Current Ohio residents who were injured in combat while serving after October 7, 2001, or who were diagnosed with post-traumatic stress related to a combat action while serving after that date. Family members can apply on behalf of a service member who died or cannot apply themselves. You must live in Ohio at the time you apply.
Focus: Post-9/11 veterans, Veterans with disabilities

How to apply
- Download and complete the application from the program page, or pick one up at your county veterans service office.
- Attach the documents listed on page two of the application, including a copy of your DD-214 (it does not need to be certified or notarized).
- Send in the application and allow six to eight weeks for processing. Call (216) 522-3696 or email MIRF@dvs.ohio.gov with questions.
Deadline: Apply any time. You can receive one grant per Ohio fiscal year, up to three fiscal years. (Rolling, apply any time)
Amount: $500 per grant, up to three grants total (one per Ohio fiscal year)
