Veterans with a permanent service-connected disability of 60% or more get a larger exemption, ranging from $17,700 to $35,400 of assessed value depending on disability rating; other honorably discharged wartime veterans get a smaller flat exemption of $3,540.

The basic exemption requires at least 90 continuous days of active duty during a recognized wartime period (or service in a campaign that earned a U.S. government medal). The larger disabled veteran exemption requires a permanent service-connected disability rating of 60% or more from the VA. A qualifying surviving spouse may also be eligible.

  3. Choose whether to apply the exemption to your real property tax bill, your vehicle governmental services tax, or split it between both.
