Removes the full annual property tax bill on the primary home of a veteran the VA has rated 100 percent permanently and totally disabled from service-connected causes. Unremarried surviving spouses and partners can keep the exemption.
Who it is for
Honorably discharged veterans with active duty service who legally live in New Jersey, own and occupy the home as their main residence, and have VA certification of a 100 percent permanent and total service-connected disability. Unremarried surviving spouses or partners who own and occupy the home also qualify.

How to apply
- Get your VA certification letter showing a 100 percent permanent and total service-connected disability rating.
- Complete Form D.V.S.S.E., the Claim for Property Tax Exemption on Dwelling of Disabled Veteran.
- File the form with your DD-214, deed, and VA certification with your local municipal tax assessor.
Deadline: No fixed application deadline is posted; you file Form D.V.S.S.E. with your local tax assessor. If denied, appeal to the County Board of Taxation by April 1 following the denial, or by January 15 in Burlington, Gloucester, and Monmouth counties. (Rolling, apply any time)
