Nebraska Veterans Aid Fund (NVA Fund)
A temporary emergency aid fund that helps veterans, spouses, and dependents pay for food, fuel, shelter, transportation, daycare, clothing, funeral costs, or medical and surgical needs when an emergency disrupts their normal way of living and no other help is available right away.
Who it is for
Veterans who served on active duty (not just training) and were discharged honorably or under honorable conditions, plus their spouses and dependents. Also covers veterans who died from their service, and certain U.S. citizens who served with allied forces.
Before you start
How you apply: Apply through a partner organization.
Apply through a County Veterans Service Officer, a State Service Officer, or the Post Service Officer of a recognized veterans service organization. They help fill out and submit the request.
How to apply
- Contact your County Veterans Service Officer (find yours through the NDVA county office directory) or call the State Service Office at 402-420-4021.
- Bring proof of the emergency (bills, eviction notice, etc.) and discharge paperwork (DD-214) to your appointment.
- The officer submits the application on your behalf to the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs.
Deadline: No deadline. This is emergency aid you can apply for any time a qualifying hardship happens. (Rolling, apply any time)
