North Carolina Scholarship for Children of Wartime Veterans (NC Wartime Veterans Scholarship)

A scholarship covering eight academic semesters at North Carolina schools for children of certain wartime veterans, usable within eight years. Over 20,000 scholarships have been awarded since the program began.

Who it is for

North Carolina residents under age 25 whose parent is a deceased, disabled, combat, or POW/MIA veteran with qualifying wartime service. Either the veteran was a North Carolina resident when they entered the military, or the child was born in North Carolina and has lived there ever since.

How to apply

  1. Read the eligibility categories on the DMVA scholarships page to see which one fits your family.
  2. Apply online at scholarships.milvets.nc.gov during an open application window. Paper applications are no longer accepted.
  3. Email ncdmva.scholarships@milvets.nc.gov if you have questions about your category or documents.

Deadline: Applications open in annual windows on the online portal. The Fall 2026 window ran May 6 to June 8, 2026. Check the portal for the next cycle before planning around a date. (Annual cycle)
