Maine Veteran Property Tax Exemption
Reduces the taxable value of a veteran's home by $6,000, or by $50,000 for a veteran who received a federal grant for specially adapted housing.
Who it is for
Maine resident veterans who either served during a federally recognized war period (or received an expeditionary medal) and are 62 or older or receiving a total disability pension from the U.S. government, or who are receiving a service-connected total disability pension. Veterans with a federal specially-adapted-housing grant qualify regardless of age or disability status.

- Get the Property Tax Exemption Application for veterans from your town or city assessor's office
- Gather proof of your discharge: a copy of your DD-214 or similar discharge paper, a VA benefit summary letter, or VA Form 20-5455
- File the completed application and documents with your local Assessor's office by April 1
