Funding State Bureau of Maine Veterans' Services (in partnership with Fedcap - Veterans Forward)

Veterans' Emergency Financial Assistance Program (VEFAP)

Gives eligible Maine veterans facing a financial emergency a one-time grant of up to $2,000 to cover things like rent or mortgage, utilities, vehicle repairs needed for work, home damage from fire or flood not covered by insurance, or a dental emergency (up to $500 of that).

Who it is for

Maine resident veterans with an Honorable or General Under Honorable Conditions discharge who are facing a hardship that puts them at risk of losing food, shelter, or safety.

Applications are handled by Fedcap - Veterans Forward, the Bureau's community partner, not the Bureau itself.

  2. Or apply directly online through the Fedcap Veterans Forward financial assistance form at fedcapmaine.org/veterans/financial-assistance-form
  3. You can also call the Bureau of Maine Veterans' Services at 207-287-7020 for help getting connected

Deadline: No fixed deadline. Apply whenever a qualifying hardship comes up. (Rolling, apply any time)

Amount: Up to $2,000 (up to $500 of that for a dental emergency)
