Maryland State Veterans Cemetery Burial Benefits (State Veterans Cemetery Burial)

Eligible veterans and their dependents receive a burial plot, grave liner, headstone, and interment services at no cost at one of Maryland's five state veterans cemeteries. Staff also help with funeral planning, scheduling, and Military Funeral Honors.

Who it is for

Veterans, National Guard members, Reservists, and eligible dependents who meet U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration eligibility rules. National Guard members, Reservists, and family members must also meet Maryland residency requirements.

How to apply

  1. Call the Department of Veterans and Military Families at 410-260-3838 (or Maryland Relay 7-1-1) to start pre-planning or to arrange a burial.
  2. Provide the veteran's discharge paperwork (DD-214) so eligibility can be confirmed against VA National Cemetery Administration rules.
  3. Work with department staff to choose a cemetery, schedule interment, and request Military Funeral Honors.

Deadline: There is no application deadline. Families can pre-plan in advance or arrange burial at the time of need. (Rolling, apply any time)
