Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption
Reduces or eliminates property tax on a disabled veteran's home, on top of the standard homestead exemption. Veterans rated 50-70% disabled get an extra $2,500 exempted, 70-100% get an extra $4,500 exempted, and veterans rated 100% disabled pay no parish property tax at all on that home.
Who it is for
Louisiana veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 50% or higher who own and live in their home.
Focus: Veterans with disabilities
Before you start
How you apply: Apply through a partner organization.
Your parish veterans service office issues the required Form A25, then you file it with your parish tax assessor, not with LDVA directly.
How to apply
- Get an updated Form A25 (Veterans Property Tax Exemption) from your local Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs parish service office.
- Bring Form A25 and proof of your VA disability rating to your parish tax assessor's office.
- Ask your parish tax assessor about renewal rules, since renewal requirements can vary by parish.
Deadline: You must own and occupy the home by December 31 of the year you're claiming the exemption for. File with your parish assessor during that year's regular assessment period. (Annual cycle)
