KDVA Homeless Veterans Program (Homeless Veterans Housing Assistance)

Pays up to $500 a year toward rent, electric, gas, or water bills for veterans who are homeless or at risk of losing their housing. Payment is sent directly to the landlord, property manager, or utility company.

Who it is for

Veterans with a general or honorable discharge who need help paying rent or utility bills right now and meet income limits based on family size (from about $31,300 a year for a single veteran up to about $86,300 for a veteran with five dependents).

How to apply

  1. Call the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at (877) 424-3838, or contact KDVA Homeless Veteran Program Administrator Tracye Estes at 502-401-6154, to start the process.
  2. Gather your DD-214 discharge papers, a photo ID, proof of income, and your utility bill or a letter from your landlord showing the amount owed.
  3. Submit the Veteran Grant Application and all documents to kdvafinancialassist@ky.gov. Processing takes about 5 to 7 days, and payment follows in another 5 to 7 business days.

Deadline: Applications are accepted year-round, but a veteran can only receive this grant once every 365 days. (Rolling, apply any time)
