Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery (IVMC)

The state veterans cemetery in Madison, Indiana, offering burial for veterans and eligible family members. Eligible burials come at no charge, including opening and closing of the plot, an outer burial container, a monument, and use of the chapel. Casket burial in a vault, in-ground cremation, columbarium placement, and a scatter garden are available.

Who it is for

Veterans with a discharge other than dishonorable, Indiana National Guard and Reserve members who meet discharge standards, active duty service members who die in the line of duty, the surviving spouse of an eligible veteran, and children under 21 or permanent dependents of a veteran.

The family or the funeral home submits the burial application, usually at the time of need.

How to apply

  1. Contact the cemetery at 812-273-9220 or IVMC@dva.in.gov to confirm eligibility and start the arrangements.
  2. Have the family or the funeral home submit the Application for Burial, available through the IDVA forms portal at forms.in.gov.
  3. Provide the veteran's discharge papers so eligibility can be confirmed before the service.

Deadline: Burial is arranged at the time of need. There is no application window. (Rolling, apply any time)
