Funding State Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs

Indiana Military Family Relief Fund (MFRF)

State emergency assistance grants that can pay for rent or mortgage, utilities, food, medical and dental bills, basic transportation, education, childcare, and funeral expenses. The fund pays current bills; it cannot reimburse bills already paid or pay more than 10 days in advance.

Who it is for

Indiana resident veterans with an eligible discharge who can show genuine financial hardship. Household income must be no more than 2 times the federal poverty guidelines.

How to apply

  1. Gather proof of income, the bills you need help with, your discharge papers, and a short statement letter explaining the hardship.
  2. Apply online, or send the printable application by mail, by email to MFRF@dva.in.gov, by fax to 317-232-7721, or in person at the Indiana Veterans Center in Indianapolis.
  3. Send in all required documents within 30 days of applying, or the request may be closed. Your County Veteran Service Officer can prepare the application with you for free.

Deadline: Applications are accepted year round as hardships come up. (Rolling, apply any time)
