Illinois Headstone or Grave Marker Reimbursement (Cartage and Erection)

Reimburses up to $125 for the cost of transporting and installing a free government-provided headstone or memorial marker for a veteran buried in Illinois. Payment is made after the marker is placed and the fees are paid.

Next of kin, family and friends, executors or trustees of a veteran's estate, and cemeteries, monument companies, or funeral homes that paid to transport or install a VA-provided headstone or marker within Illinois.

How to apply

  1. Have the free government headstone or marker installed and pay the transportation or installation fee.
  2. Complete the Veterans Grave Registration Form using the DocuSign links on the IDVA page and attach the paid receipt.
  3. If you need help, schedule a free appointment with a local Veteran Service Officer through the IDVA locator.

Deadline: Apply any time after the headstone or marker has been received and placed and the transportation or installation fees have been paid. (Rolling, apply any time)
