Children of Fallen Iowa Service Members Scholarship (Children of Fallen Iowa Service Members Scholarship)

A scholarship, part of the Branstad-Reynolds Scholarship Fund, that helps pay college costs for the children of Iowa service members who died on active military status after September 11, 2001. It can cover tuition, books, fees, housing, and required tools and equipment.

Who it is for

Children of a service member who was an Iowa resident when they entered service and at the time of death, whose death was after September 11, 2001 (not required to be combat-related), attending an Iowa post-secondary school. The child must also be a current Iowa resident.

How to apply

  1. Confirm you are the child of a qualifying Iowa service member and that you attend or will attend an Iowa post-secondary school.
  2. Complete the scholarship application and gather supporting documents, such as a birth certificate and proof of the service member's death (a death certificate or DD 1300).
  3. Submit the application so it is received at the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs on or before December 31; call 800-838-4692 for help.
