Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemeteries

Georgia operates two state veterans memorial cemeteries, in Glennville and in Milledgeville, open for the burial of qualified veterans and eligible family members. The plot or niche, the vault, the marker, and use of the committal chapel for interment services are provided at no cost. The family covers all remaining funeral expenses.

Who it is for

Veterans with an honorable discharge, National Guard or Reserve members eligible for retirement at death, and active duty members who died in service. Spouses, unmarried dependents under age 21, and eligible lifelong dependents of an eligible veteran may also be buried there.

How to apply

  1. Gather the veteran's DD Form 214 or other proof of service, plus identifying details (name, rank, service numbers, dates of birth and death) and a marriage certificate for a spouse.
  2. Contact the cemetery directly to arrange burial: Glennville at 912-654-5398 or Milledgeville at 478-445-3363.

Deadline: There is no application deadline. Burial is arranged at the time of need by contacting the cemetery. Business hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. (Rolling, apply any time)
