Georgia State War Veterans Homes
Two state-owned skilled nursing homes for eligible Georgia war veterans, in Milledgeville and in Augusta (nicknamed the Blue Goose, operated through an interagency agreement with Augusta University). They provide skilled nursing care, including memory care for Alzheimer's residents and rehabilitation. A daily fee applies, but veterans with a service-connected rating of 70 percent or higher, or whose admission is due to a service-connected condition, have the daily fee paid in full by the VA.
Who it is for
Georgia war veterans with a discharge under other than dishonorable conditions who served on active duty during a wartime period, are approved by the VA as eligible for skilled nursing care, and meet the residency rule (lived in Georgia the two years before applying, or five or more of the past 15 years). Applicants must be free of contagious infectious disease and behavioral and psychiatric problems and not require life-sustaining mechanical support.
