Georgia HERO Scholarship (HERO Scholarship)

A state scholarship of up to $2,000 per academic year, up to $8,000 total, for Georgia National Guard members and U.S. Military Reservists who served in a combat zone, and for their children and spouses. Awards are first come, first served as appropriated funds are available.

Who it is for

Georgia residents who are members of the Georgia National Guard or U.S. Military Reserves and served in a combat zone, plus the children and spouses of those service members. Students must be enrolled at an eligible Georgia college or university and meet Georgia residency rules (12 consecutive months before registration).

How to apply

  1. Confirm you meet the eligibility rules on the GAfutures HERO Scholarship page.
  2. Complete the Georgia HERO application form (a fillable PDF linked from the Apply Now section on GAfutures) and follow the submission instructions on the form.
  3. Submit a renewal application each academic year to keep receiving the scholarship.

Deadline: You must file your first HERO application no later than two years after you become eligible, and a renewal application is required each academic year. Awards are first come, first served while funding lasts. (Deadline varies)
