Additional Veterans Tax Relief Program
Gives qualifying veterans an extra property tax exemption on top of the standard $1,000 veterans' exemption, up to an additional amount equal to 200% of the local exemption for those who meet income limits.
Who it is for
Connecticut veterans who were honorably discharged, served at least 90 days of active duty during a wartime period, and meet the state's income limits (also available to qualifying survivors).

How to apply
- Make sure your DD-214 (discharge paper) is filed with your Town Clerk before October 1.
- File Form M-59a with your town's Assessor's office if you want the income-qualified additional exemption; this must be refiled every two years, between February 1 and October 1.
Deadline: Discharge papers and the income-qualified application (Form M-59a, filed every two years between February 1 and October 1) must be on file by October 1 to count for that year's tax list. (Fixed deadline)
