Funding State California State Board of Equalization and county assessors

Disabled Veterans' Property Tax Exemption

Cuts the property tax bill on the home of a California veteran who is rated 100 percent disabled from service, or paid at the 100 percent rate because they cannot work. There is a basic exemption for everyone who qualifies and a larger one for lower-income households, and both amounts rise with inflation each year.

Who it is for

California veterans disabled by their military service who have a 100 percent disability rating, are paid at the 100 percent rate because they cannot work, are blind in both eyes, or have lost the use of two or more limbs. They must own and live in the home and have been discharged under other than dishonorable conditions. Unmarried surviving spouses of qualifying veterans can also claim it.

Focus: Veterans with disabilities, Surviving spouses and families
