Arizona Veteran Courts
Veteran Courts are a collaborative process among the prosecutor, defense counsel, judge, and sometimes the Arizona Department of Veterans' Services or the VA, meant to rehabilitate and restore veterans who are involved in the criminal justice system. Instead of standard sentencing, the court builds and supervises a treatment plan that addresses root causes like PTSD, traumatic brain injury, or substance abuse.
Who it is for
Veterans who are in or entering the criminal justice system and whose underlying issues, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, anger issues, domestic violence, or alcohol and drug abuse, can be addressed through treatment. ADVS lists the regional and municipal veteran courts by area, including the East Valley Regional, West Valley Regional, Phoenix, Mesa, Tucson, Pima County, Coconino County, Bullhead City, Kingman, and Lake Havasu City courts.
