Arkansas State Veterans Cemeteries
Two state veterans cemeteries, in North Little Rock and Birdeye, that provide a dignified burial for veterans at no cost. Burial for a veteran includes the gravesite, opening and closing of the grave, a burial vault, a government headstone or niche cover, and perpetual care. Burial of an eligible spouse or dependent costs $807.
Who it is for
Veterans and service members discharged under conditions other than dishonorable, plus eligible National Guard and Reserve members. A veteran's spouse, unmarried children under 21 (or under 23 if in school), and certain lifelong dependents may also be buried there.

The funeral home usually works with the cemetery office to arrange the burial. Families can also apply ahead of time for pre-eligibility so the paperwork is ready when it is needed.
How to apply
- Gather the veteran's DD-214 discharge papers and, if a spouse or dependent will be buried, a marriage license or proof of the relationship.
- Complete a signed pre-eligibility or burial application. You can submit forms by email to Robyn.wertz@arkansas.gov.
- Call the North Little Rock cemetery office at (501) 683-2259 with any questions, or have your funeral home coordinate directly with the cemetery.
Deadline: There is no deadline. Cemetery grounds are open every day of the year from 6 a.m. until dusk, and the office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Families can apply for pre-eligibility at any time. (Rolling, apply any time)
