Alabama G.I. Dependents' Scholarship Program (Alabama G.I. Dependents' Scholarship)
Pays undergraduate tuition up to $400 per credit hour at Alabama public schools, plus up to $1,000 per student per year for books and fees, for the spouses, widows, widowers, children, and stepchildren of disabled or deceased veterans.
Who it is for
Spouses, unremarried widows or widowers, children, and stepchildren of a veteran who was permanently disabled at 40 percent or more from military service, died from a service-connected cause, or was a POW/MIA, and who meets an Alabama residency test (either an Alabama resident before entering service plus current residency, or five years of Alabama residency for a 100 percent rating). Children and stepchildren get 10 semesters of benefits as long as the veteran's rating is 40 percent or higher. Spouses and unremarried widow(er)s get 6 semesters if the veteran is rated 40 to 90 percent disabled, or 10 semesters if the veteran is rated 100 percent permanently and totally disabled.

- Create an account and complete the online application yourself (parents cannot apply on a student's behalf).
- Complete the FAFSA every year and keep satisfactory academic progress to keep the award.
Deadline: No single yearly deadline is posted. Students apply through the online portal and should apply as early as possible before the term they plan to attend. (Rolling, apply any time)
